I have done countless real estate photography work, and every home is different and so is this one in particular.
The client is an out-of-station property management company that launches their new Airbnb listing in charlotte and needed professional photography for their brand new furnished listing. They had a very specific request about the way the pictures have to be taken and provided pointers.
Typically, I can complete a house in an hour, and this one, in particular, took 2hr 45 mins on location, plus the editing.
“Low Angle, No ceilings, Less floor, Need Bright photos with saturated colors
It’s kinda challenging to ignore the ceilings in general, and even more to avoid the floors with a low angle.
The house has great natural lights coming in mixed with both daylight and tungsten lights. I had to ensure to take a white balance reading for all different lightings if in case I needed it in post.
As much as I knew I’d take whatever is best to highlight the space of this Airbnb, I also wanted to ensure to give what was asked.
I ended up spending more hours on site and ended up taking 300+ bracketed photos and some detailed shots for Airbnb. Airbnb’s audience loves to know the details of the interior space, especially the amenities, kitchen, any sports-related activities, etc.
There is a big area that is set up to entertain the Airbnb guests with the billiards, foosball, small coffee table. Took a few shots of wide-angle to show how the space is connected with the rest of the house and as well as detailed shots
I know the cover featured image for the Airbnb matters the most for the click-through rate. I took a photo that shows the living room space that has a firepit, TV, nicely decorated with the beautiful blue velvet sofa with a lot of fluffy pillows. In the post, I cut out the black TV screen to a nature photo. This Airbnb listing is in the Charlotte, North Carolina area which is known for its mountains. Hence, I thought the nature photo is the best to include.
All of the above photos were shot with my favorite Sigma 14-24mm f2.8 Prime Fast lens for Canon.
It’s a great lens for real estate and architectural photography. But for the detail shots, I know it’d be too wide and slightly would distort the images when it’s close up.
So I use my most favorite all-around lens from the same Sigma Art collection 35mm f 1.4. At f1.4 it helps me to focus on the most important detail of the space.
Below are some of the detailed shots for this Airbnb space.
