As a professional Airbnb photographer, I’ve captured all kinds of properties with various themes, but this 70’s style Barbie-themed Airbnb was unlike anything I’ve ever done. The space was bursting with vibrant colors, from the paintings and furniture to the Barbie lights, wallpapers, photo frames, and bedding. Every corner of this property was carefully designed to create a fun, nostalgic atmosphere. The large projector would absolutely be a treat to the airbnb guests. It’s sure to give guests a one-of-a-kind, memorable experience!
In this photoshoot, I also completed the twilight conversion and grass replacement for the outdoor shots. It’s a great example that gives you a clear idea of how your own home could look with a twilight conversion.
Photographing a home this colorful
With pink rainbow-arch wallpaper, lighted vanity mirrors, a royal-blue sectional, striped throws and walls lined with glittery cowboy hats, this home is designed to be photographed. The challenge is keeping it from looking chaotic. I shot every room straight on and level, so the patterns line up with the frame, and kept the composition simple enough for the eye to take in one idea at a time.
Color accuracy mattered more than usual here. The pinks, purples and blues are part of the brand of this rental, so I balanced the daylight against the neon signs and the mirror bulbs to keep each color true without blowing out the lights.
Spaces made for groups
The living room is set up as a getting-ready lounge, with a long vanity counter, stools and lighted mirrors facing a large projector screen and the sectional. The bedrooms each have their own wallpaper, from retro tile patterns to leopard prints, with neon signs above the beds. I photographed them as a set so guests can compare rooms at a glance.
Twilight conversion and grass replacement
For the exterior, I converted a daytime shot into a twilight image and replaced the patchy grass with a full green lawn in editing. Both are available as add-ons, and they are a simple way to give a listing a more inviting first photo.
