Way Back Cottage – Airbnb Photography in Plaza Midwood Charlotte NC

Our Favorite Airbnb Host Products

Some properties you photograph once and never forget. Way Back Cottage in Plaza Midwood is one of those.

I first shot this place a couple of years ago, and coming back to it felt exactly like the name suggests — going way back. The memories of that first shoot came right back the moment I walked in. The shiplap walls, the warm wood ceiling, the gallery walls packed with vintage art, tennis rackets, old paintings, and collected pieces that tell a hundred different stories. Amy, the host, has always had an eye for this kind of layered, lived-in aesthetic that you genuinely cannot manufacture. You either have it or you don’t. She has it in abundance.

A record player sits on a wooden table beside a potted plant, a wooden tray, and a Herbie Hancock vinyl record. A TV hangs on a white wooden-plank wall above the scene.

This visit was about capturing the updates she’d made since the last shoot — and there were several worth recapturing. The green kitchen cabinets against the white walls photograph beautifully, and the “Lake George Sailing School” signage adds that nostalgic character that fits this cottage like it was always supposed to be there. The record player in the corner, the vintage desk, the plaid bedding on the iron bed frame — every detail feels like it was chosen with intention and just a little bit of love for the past. As an Airbnb photographer in Charlotte NC, spaces like this are the reason I do this work.

The living room is what gets me every time. That tufted leather sofa anchoring the space, gallery walls on every side, warm pendant lighting, and natural light filtering through the bamboo shades — it’s one of those rooms that gives you five different compositions before you’ve even moved your feet. I probably took more photos in that room than I should have. My camera had no complaints.

Way Back Cottage consistently ranks among the top listings on Airbnb, and it’s not hard to see why. Plaza Midwood is one of Charlotte’s most interesting neighborhoods — walkable, full of character, close to great restaurants and local spots that guests actually want to explore. The cottage fits right into that energy. It doesn’t feel like a rental. It feels like staying at a friend’s place — a friend with exceptional taste and a very impressive art collection.

Amy is one of those hosts who genuinely cares, and it shows in every corner of this property. Coming back to photograph Way Back Cottage wasn’t just a reshoot — it was a reminder of why certain properties and certain hosts stay with you long after the shoot is done.

If you’ve ever searched for a short term rental photographer in Charlotte NC who understands properties with real character, this is exactly the kind of work I love doing most.
