Love love love. Thank you!!! I love these. I love how you captured the space with the lighting. That was what was most important to me. Thank you!! Ashley Harkrader
New Construction With a Calm, Minimal Look
This new build in Charlotte’s Beachmont area was decorated by the Pretty Stays team in soft, mellow tones. Gray and white furniture, green accents, and black curtains create a calm palette that lets the natural light do most of the work. The host told me lighting was what mattered most to her, so that is where I put my focus.
What the Photos Show
- A two-story exterior with an attached garage and a mint green front door
- A front porch with a cactus planter and a lounge chair
- An open living room with a gray sectional, an olive knit throw, and round mirrors
- Sliding glass doors to a patio with an umbrella and dining set
- A dining table with modern green chairs and a chandelier
- A white kitchen with stainless appliances, a subway tile backsplash, and a breakfast bar
- Bright bedrooms with simple styling and plenty of windows
Using Ambient Light
I used the home’s own light as much as possible. Rather than overpowering the rooms with flash, I let the daylight from the windows and sliding doors fill the space, then blended exposures so the bright spots and the darker corners both look natural. That approach keeps the photos soft and true to the mellow mood of the decor.
It is always a great feeling when the host’s main priority comes through in the final photos, and this one was a pleasure to shoot and edit.
