So you pull up to a house that looks like it skipped the “freshen up the outside” memo. No new paint, no fancy landscaping, just… there. But hey, the shoot was booked by a designer, so you know there’s a plot twist coming. Spoiler alert: I wasn’t wrong.
This place? Designed by Alyse, and let me tell you, it’s like stepping into a Pinterest dream board. Gorgeous colors everywhere, five bedrooms that actually make you want to stay, and all the essentials covered—entertainment systems, music, an outdoor fireplace for that perfect “s’mores and stories” vibe, and a dining table with a grill on the deck that screams “I host good times.” The list could go on, but I don’t want to spoil it all.
The bedrooms? Cozy and thoughtfully laid out. Location-wise, it’s a sweet spot between Charlotte and South Charlotte, so you’re never far from the action or the quiet. I shot a ton of verticals here because honestly, my work bends and flexes around the space and the unique style the host brought to life. But instead of me talking more, I’ll let the photos do their thing—because sometimes, pictures really do speak louder than words.
Photographing a designer’s color choices
When a designer builds a rental around color, the photos have to carry it accurately. This home uses deep blue and burnt-orange accent walls, often painted in half-height blocks or arches behind the bed or the dining table, so I framed those walls straight on to keep their shapes clean. In editing, I kept the blues blue and the oranges warm instead of letting them drift toward the same tone.
The dining area is a good example. An arch painted in blue frames floating shelves of art and plants behind a long table set with blue dishes, and I photographed it from the kitchen side so guests see the table, the shelves and the windows in one frame.
Why I shot so many verticals
Tall, narrow compositions suit homes with this much going on at eye level, like painted arches, shelving and art. They also work well on phones, which is where most guests first see a listing.
Spaces for a group
- A media room with a large projection screen and bar-height seating.
- A living room with a textured accent wall, round ottomans and a leather sofa.
- A shaded deck with a long dining table and a grill, set with colorful tableware.
- Five bedrooms, each with its own accent color.
