This airbnb photoshoot request had been in the works for quite some time, involving several updates and reschedules to finally make it happen. Despite the logistical challenges, the host was committed to having me capture the space. When I finally arrived at the property, I found a beautifully designed home that was well worth the wait. Every detail had been carefully curated to ensure a memorable experience for guests.
Although I typically expect the space to be fully ready upon arrival based on the article i already wrote how to stage an airbnb for photoshoot , the host was still putting the finishing touches in place. I began photographing the upstairs area while they prepared the downstairs, which allowed me to capture each space at its best. The unique layout of this airbnb added character, and it was clear that the host had infused their personality into every room. With a thoughtful mix of essentials and personalized decor, the home exuded warmth and charm with a neutral tone all around.
The airbnb offered plenty of inviting spaces, from spacious bedrooms and elegant tilework to carefully chosen lighting and handcrafted wall frames. Accent walls added a unique touch, reflecting the host’s eye for design and creating an ambiance that would make any guest feel at home. The host is very particular about how amazing the guests should feel their presence at home, and enjoy their stay.

How I worked around the finishing touches
When a host is still styling on shoot day, the best approach is to work in sequence. I started upstairs while the downstairs was finished, then came back down once each room was ready. That way, every photo shows the room complete, and nothing has to be retouched out later.
Photographing neutral design so it doesn’t look flat
Neutral homes can photograph as bland if the light is flat. This one has plenty of texture to work with: a wood-slat accent wall behind a bed, wainscoting in the living room, a barn door into the bathroom and a sculptural white piece beside a dark dresser. I used angles that let the light skim across those surfaces so the texture shows.
The open kitchen and dining area got a wide shot that shows the island with its stools, the white cabinets and a Charlotte skyline canvas above the dining table, a nice local touch for guests.
Details worth a close-up
- Brown knit throws folded at the foot of each bed.
- A desk with a lamp and a gray chair for work trips.
